It is used as a descriptor for the Burroughs/Wells/Verne-influenced fiction that is written after the fact, so it seems completely appropriate to me. Is it because a certain amount of the fiction under that name is less than high-quality?faoladhhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03691952430041394614noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8116962779728480800.post-10314268707125773452014-05-10T11:53:10.163-07:002014-05-10T11:53:10.163-07:00Space 1889 is such a great setting. not crazy abou...Space 1889 is such a great setting. not crazy about the "cascading" skill system. hate "steampunk" both as a word and a genre; I would certainly not call Space 1889 by such an awful term as it is more a Burroughs/Wells/Verne type of settingDoc Savagehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08783244633195233970noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8116962779728480800.post-68271186176361982692013-02-14T18:43:59.677-08:002013-02-14T18:43:59.677-08:00As I recall it, it was fairly easy and unobtrusive...As I recall it, it was fairly easy and unobtrusive, but not what I was looking for at the time (I was more interested in "realism", which at the time meant "complexity" to me). It fits more closely with what I'd like these days. The combat system was a little clunky, but that may have been because the rules made different assumptions than most games before it (or, for that matter, since), such as giving such a large role to weapon type in determining what dice to roll.faoladhhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03691952430041394614noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8116962779728480800.post-31627776960090130542013-02-14T18:40:16.612-08:002013-02-14T18:40:16.612-08:00I've been really bad about pimping my blog (as...I've been really bad about pimping my blog (as you may notice from the number of subscribers!), but thank you for pointing that blog carnival.
